USS SULTANA in the news
http://www.kcchronicle.com/articles/2011/01/05/25503531/index.xml"Another historical connection is to the USS Sultana Disaster, a steamboat of returning Union soldiers who were prisoners of war in the South.
The boat exploded on the Mississippi River in Memphis, Tenn., killing 1,500.
“They survived the war and died coming home,” Rawson said. “It’s one of the worst maritime disasters in the history of the country, but most people never heard of it because Lincoln had just been assassinated.”
